Team Excel Collegiate, founded in 2009, proudly represents The Skating Club of Boston. The 2010 – 2011 team includes 21 student athletes representing 19 different colleges and universities located in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The team is fully funded through the Team Excel Collegiate Scholarship, which allows undergraduate and graduate students to pursue a competitive synchronized skating career at one of the premier figure skating clubs in the country, while attending the school that suits their academic needs.
Team Excel Collegiate is ranked second on the East Coast, after a brilliant performance at the 2011 Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships held in Lake Placid, New York. They look forward to competing at the upcoming 2011 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships which will be held during the first week of March in Ontario, CA.
Prior to the Eastern Sectional Championships, the team earned a gold medal at The Boston Synchronized Skating Classic and a silver medal at The Cape Cod Classic.
Working with coach Merita Mullen, Team Excel Collegiate practices at both The Skating Club of Boston in Boston and New England Sports Center in Marlborough. Their competitive program is choreographed to a medley of Sarah Brightman songs.
The team looks forward to three exhibitions in the upcoming weeks. On March 12, they will be exhibiting during The Mayor’s Cup on The Boston Common Frog Pond from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m, followed by a second performance at the MIT Figure Skating Exhibition from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Finally, Team Excel Collegiate will join other Skating Club of Boston competitors in the 7:00 pm performance of Ice Chips 2011, on Saturday April 2nd at Harvard’s Bright Arena.
